About Us
Originally built in 1911, the Bruce Hotel has been an icon in Central Alberta for over 100 years. The small, yet regal hotel once hosted weary travellers in it's 10 rooms but the present day building fills nearly every weekend with hungry diners instead!
Purchased in 1998 by Deb Boyd and Karl Pickup, the couple decided they wanted to spend more time together, so they quit their day jobs and bought the old hotel in the hamlet of Bruce, population 71 at the time. They worked tirelessly to renovate both floors and also introduced home-cooked food to the restaurant. They went from 14 dining patrons on their very first evening, and fast forward to the present day in which we host up to 200 hungry patrons most Friday and Saturday evenings. In the Fall of 2018 the hotel was offered for sale as Deb and Karl were ready to start their retirement and was purchased by Carlene and Jason Walsh. Once just customers of the hotel, the couple possess a true passion for the restaurant, the industry, and the community. Carlene has trained under Deb and is very much proving to be the next "Steak Doctor", and Jay can be found behind the bar or chatting with guests, feel free to say "Hi" when you see him! Carlene and Jay know the importance of this building to customers and the community alike and are committed to upholding the quality, service, and fun atmosphere that people have come to know and love of the Bruce Hotel. They look forward to preserving the building, the business, and all the brand encompasses. |
